Nicole originally comes from Saint Kitts, in the West Indies. Following her passion and dream to master the pastry arts, she is now a student at the Culinary School of Canada at Holland College. Making a dream come true is never easy and often filled with surprises. We all know that an unexpected pregnancy should never deter one from the pursuit of dreams. Here are her words:
“Earning a degree/diploma is essential to providing the basic care, and the best possible future for my daughter, hence the reason why I decided to return to college. Working at minimum wage, I thought to myself “How are we going to survive?” Shortly after being accepted into Holland College in PEI, I also found out I was pregnant with my second child. I sobbed bitterly. I just enrolled into the program of my dreams and things were starting to look good for me and my daughter. It felt like I took 100 steps back. I knew from the get-go, I was going to keep the baby even though the father wanted an abortion. It was never an option for me. I’ve always been pro-life no matter what the situation or circumstance was, poor or rich.”
Courageously she continues: “I was still terrified deep within about how I was going to take care of my daughter, have my next baby and finish college. I am determined to complete my post-secondary education, because now it is about my kids and making sure they have the best possible future.”
Your support allows her to say: “This bursary will ensure that my tuition is covered, and I am able to complete the program without any hiccups. This is my dream and I will strive to ensure that I achieve it.”
